The Rolex Yacht-Master 40 is an elegant take on a sports watch inspired by the world of yachting and offshore racing. The Yacht-Master collection was first introduced in 1992 and, from the very beginning, has combined a nautical character with the luxurious craftsmanship typical of the Rolex brand. Reference 16622, introduced in the late 1990s, introduced the distinctive combination of steel and platinum known as Rolesium. It was the combination of these two materials, together with the light platinum dial, that created one of the most recognizable and distinctive looks in the entire Yacht-Master collection.

The 904L stainless steel case has a diameter of 40 mm and is complemented by a bidirectional rotating bezel made of 950 platinum with a distinctive 60-minute scale. Its matte-sanded finish contrasts with the raised, polished numerals and graduations. The watch is dominated by a platinum dial in a silvery shade, whose finely grained texture creates an elegant play of light. The applied hour markers and distinctive Mercedes hands are complemented by a striking red central seconds hand, which, together with the red “Yacht-Master” inscription, lends the watch a sporty touch. The date at the 3 o’clock position is highlighted by the iconic Cyclops lens. The watch is fitted with a steel Oyster bracelet featuring an Oysterlock folding safety clasp. The Triplock screw-down crown and Oyster case construction ensure water resistance to 100 meters.

Inside, it is powered by the Rolex 3135 in-house automatic caliber, one of the brand’s longest-serving and most reliable movements. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 half-vibrations per hour, features 31 jewels, and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The Perpetual bidirectional rotor ensures automatic winding, and the movement features a seconds-hand stop function for precise time setting. COSC chronometer certification confirms its high precision and reliability.

The Rolex Yacht-Master 16622 in the Rolesium version represents one of the most distinctive—and now discontinued—variants of this collection. The combination of a platinum bezel, a silvery-platinum dial, red accents, and the classic Oyster steel bracelet creates a timeless watch that blends sporty elegance with luxurious materials.
